To the west of Bogotá, inhabitants and tourists alike jostle at the entrance to a vast building with an astonishing design. Built on the initiative of the Colombian Association for the Advancement of Science, the Maloka Center opened its doors nearly two decades ago and now houses a stunning 3D domed cinema, nine different exhibition rooms and more than 300 interactive modules spread over 17,000 sqm. Over the years, with growing success they have added a boutique, a restaurant, a café and a public square.
Before becoming the largest institution of its kind in Latin America, the Maloka project brought together scientists, creators and teachers with the same desire to pass on their knowledge. A successful idea: between biology, robotics, chemistry, geology, optics, or mechanics, the centre provides the keys to an understanding of modern physical, natural and technological phenomena, through short and feature films, as well as through gastronomy and music.
