Two hours away from Quito, guests are welcome to move further in the jungle. Hidden behind the branches of the tropical forest, Mashpi Lodge will reveal itself. The hotel was conceived to produce a minimal carbon footprint, whilst offering a very high-end service. Chief architect Alfredo Ribadeneira describes it as a “bubble of comfort amidst the jungle”. Food is supplied to the hotel's restaurant by nearby villages, and only organic products are being used. In the same spirit, no trees were cut to build Mashpi Lodge.
Here, amid a 1,200-hectare private nature reserve, you will not notice any other human presence on the whereabouts. Contemplate surrounding nature through the picture windows of the 24 rooms. Fascinated by the show, families of budding observers can spend hours gazing at the courtship rituals of various birds and butterflies above the canopy, listening to equatorial frogs croaking and even making out a few indolent pumas.
